Escher and the Droste effect - Universiteit Leiden

It seems Escher worked these lines out from a few desired properties, iterating until the curves became satisfactorily smooth, minimizing "bumps" of improper stretching. The true grid is infinite, but maybe he had less reference to figure out those unintuitive curves nearing the edge of the paper?
After watching @3blue1brown 's video on M.C. Escher's Prentententoonstelling, I wanted to know how close Escher's grid (green) came to the "exact" one derived by De Smit and Lenstra (red). The central square seems perfect, but the edges, and especially the corners deviate much more...
After 2.5 weeks germinating in a paper towel, about 1/3 of my reaper seeds have sprouted. Moving them to a seed starting tray, along with some jalapeños which grow a lot easier. Otherwise the parent pepper tree seems healthy and happy after a winter by the window. 🌶️🌱

Happy Pie Day to those who celebrate. 🥧

The stock was water, lobster shell, carrot peelings, celery, garlic, fennel seeds, bay leaves, a little oil, a little soy sauce and mirin. Simmered for 1 hour then strained.

Added to milk, butter, tomato paste, roux, carrots, peppers, diced korean fish cakes, black pepper, salt and MSG.

Tonight's experiment: Lobster bisque! 🦞🥘
I ended up with some leftover lobster bits after a friend's wedding. Never tried this before; after simmering about an hour the lobster shells produce a very potent broth! After straining, added some milk, butter, roux, veg, spice, etc.
