Today, Tuesday, March 28, 2023: Microsoft becomes the first major tech company to pitch reporters that its products are safer because they use generative AI.
What is happening now on Twitter is not migration; it's dispersal. People are leaving for a whole host of different platforms. As long as twitter remains an essential clearinghouse for breaking news and up to the minute info, it will shuffle onwards, but it's finished as an incubator of mass culture.

Grew up in the middle east with blocked websites and government tracking. And UAE is supposed to be 'liberal'.

@rbreich: The only trickle-down effect I can appreciate is the one in tech/engineering. For example: R&D in motorsports, like F1, and how it benefits the automotive industry.
The Harlem Hellfighters were a predominantly Black regiment in WWI. They confronted racism even as they trained for war, brought jazz to France, and battled longer than any other American unit. They also won the Croix de Guerre for their bravery. The medals can be seen in the colourized photo.
@mattblaze I studied about this in a Cyber Criminology lecture last semester. Phone Phreaking was fascinating. We watched a video where some people could imitate those frequencies with just their mouths and trick the system into thinking that they were machine-generated tones.

Here's a first: did a Google search on something and one of my own Mastodon posts came up as a result.

Beginning to think that the cultural norm here of not allowing search isn't going to last all that much longer.
