The trouble of NOT GOOD ENOUGH

๐Ÿ‘† Nothing has prevented me from learning more quickly than my relationship with the above.

The answer is to embrace being poor at something, but it is easier said than done ๐Ÿ™‚

I wrote a newsletter on this, maybe it can be of help ๐Ÿ™‚

The problem with NOT GOOD ENOUGH

Hey friend, I recorded a monologue sitting by the Moreton Bay on the Coral Sea. But I made so many mistakes! I forgot the name of the bay I was sitting by. I was not sure of the name of the hottest startup in all of generative AI. Plus I yell at the camera through part of the video, misuse the...

It is my great pleasure to share with you that today I became a 2x Kaggle Grandmaster ๐Ÿฅณ

Feels surreal that this should happen ๐Ÿ™

I recorded a short video on how it feels to become a Kaggle GM (and what I plan to do next) ๐Ÿ™‚

It is most certainly one of my least serious productions... thus far ๐Ÿ˜„

Hope it maybe puts a smile on your face! ๐Ÿ™‚

My recent discovery is that indeed I DO NEED a mastermind group.

Or a group of friends that will support each other in personal growth and the pursuit of their goals.

I need to be a part of such a group because it is great for me.

And so do you.

I speak more about my experience and how to get such a group of people in this video: https://youtu.be/KEVeMunS0Jc

"Mastermind group" sounds gimmicky, but this idea is really valuable ๐Ÿ™

I recorded a brief introduction to the OTTO RecSys competition on Kaggle!

We start with the baseline and build on top of it by progressively adding more advanced ideas:

โ€ข co-visitation matrix
โ€ข manual reranking
โ€ข reranking using a model
โ€ข word2vec & matrix factorization for candidate generation and scoring

Meant as a brief introduction both to the OTTO competition and a couple of foundational ideas in RecSys.

Here it is: https://youtu.be/gtPEX_eRAVo

Hope you find it a good watch! ๐Ÿ™‚

Mastodon feels more personal...

So I find myself feeling I have to feel more about what I write here and then end up not writing anything ๐Ÿ™ƒ Not ideal -- need to fix this.

But in case this might be of interest to you, I did an AMA on YouTube today! ๐Ÿฅณ

We discussed:
โ€ข learning ML
โ€ข getting a DL job
โ€ข kaggling

Please find it here: https://youtu.be/qjWZvdo7PYA

Here are the topics we discussed:

New Kaggle competition just launched! ๐Ÿฅณ

Small, clean tabular dataset so you can jump right in on any hardware!

To get you up and running quickly, I prepared an EDA notebook (EDA, training, submission): https://www.kaggle.com/code/radek1/eda-training-a-first-model-submission

And also recorded a short video on the competition: https://youtu.be/cIFRuaQy2Ow

Hope you enjoy! ๐Ÿ™‚ Happy Kaggling! ๐Ÿฅณ

Would like to add that while this type of learning feels familiar, I don't certainly have all the answers.

Today I am riding an emotional high of noticing how through experience I revisit the same place (recording myself while discussing code) and it already feels different!

But success is not guaranteed ๐Ÿ™‚

It is if I persevere and can keep the emotional drive going, but my ability to do so is uncertain!

Plus maybe the effort will turn out to not be worth it ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ Only time will tell ๐Ÿ™‚

I said I would be more personal on here, so here it goes ๐Ÿ™‚

I am experimenting with creating videos -- ideally, I would like the process to feel for me just like blogging or tweeting.

But I am starting from scratch and I absolutely love this experience!

How emotionally challenging it is to do things outside your comfort zone.

How your perception changes as you learn.
