the people giving me problems lately are furries on snouts and adjacent instances with the same "i want to speak to your manager" attitude that shel displayed when reply flooding dank.

these users have been demanding immediate, personal answers to their questions while i'm busy putting out fires. they demand information that i've already published. they distract and derail me so i can't finish explaining myself.

that's entitlement: treating me like a vending machine instead of a person.

the users i'm here for are the smaller, quieter accounts, snouts who've been afraid of speaking up. they have been lovely to me since i took over, whispering support while i handle this mess amongst so much loud yapping.

know who else has been lovely to me? users and staff on instances like monads, elekk, myass, redroom, and some smaller furry instances.

support for me is hardly universal, even on the aforementioned instances, but i can't please everyone. i'd die trying.

idk what "mass migration" off snouts anyone is talking about.

a few days ago, we had just under 3020 registered users and ~850 active users on average.

rn we have 2972 users. 48 users left so far, max. i guess that's big numbers in fedi talk, or seems big if you only focus on the loudest, most prolific posters, but that's not who i'm here for.

people have been warning snouts to downsize since before i joined; i guess it's time

okay, now i'm done telling that story.

i know there will still be questions, so drop them here for me to read over in the morning.

i have some more stuff to say about administration, but i'm exhausted.

at this point, snouts staff has still done Nothing. we just sat around in the mod chat, refusing to take action or be proactive in any way.

that is what i mean when i say "Snouts Online Fucked Up"

after this it gets even harder to follow, with folks taking to twitter and such, but those people are outside my responsibility.

demo and scruffo are gone now because they hurt people and i have no reservations about banning either one.

at this point the order of events gets hazy for me, but:

demoweasel made some caustic posts about monads including the term "cumbrains" and then replied to an elekk admin (Milly) with the phrase "honk honk", which taken together were interpreted as nazi dogwhistles.

so now Milly has every reason to believe that snouts is harboring a nazi who is actively harassing them and their users. scruffo gets involved, defends demo, does his own harassment against elekk and monads—>

shel, who apparently had no faith in snouts moderation either, took it upon themself to come at dankwraith with a sanctimonious reply flood condemning "screenshot dunking", demonstrating a serious case of entitlement to other people's time and energy.

we could have still avoided this mess if snouts mods had stepped in, but we just didn't.

after reaching an agreement with noelle, i am happy to announce that snouts.online and elekk.xyz will refederate, but under a mutual silence, in order to ease tensions and prevent new conflicts. this means that users from each instance are free to follow one another, and they will receive posts and notifications from those they follow. however, posts from one instance will not appear on the other's public timelines, and users will not get notifications from users they don't follow.
