Do many want charity w/o piety? Do others hold up devotional piety as proof of faith, teach sarcasm against charitable instincts?
How can you try to make your life NOT be a walking contradiction to Wright’s unity of faith, piety, charity?

Albert Barnes, Presbyterian minister, contrasts American slavery with the servitude in Leviticus 25:47-8. It was a purchase of time of service, period, much like apprenticeship. In no way could this practice be called slavery.

Robert South was an Anglican writer and preacher. Here he writes on love. He says that love is only of value when it deals forth benefits in proportion to the need. When it shows itself in universality and constancy. Otherwise it is a trick.
An evangelical preacher on IG decried universality of love, or caring for those in other countries, saying that it was like a father devoting resources to other’s children.
How can you show love that is of reality and value?
Anthony Farindon, Anglican minister, writes on love of mercy (Is 58). The world or our flesh may think we are our own. But God has instituted “reciprocal offices of mercy”: we must do not, not merely refrain from harm of neighbor.
There are modern political views that celebrate the mere lack of not doing harm, at which one’s responsibility is ended.

William Arnot, Scottish minister, objects to the proverb, “charity begins at home”. It’s used not just for food but even Christian missions to non-Christian nations. The idea is a half-truth, and thus a whole falsehood. Charity begins but does not end at home.
