Albert Barnes, Presbyterian minister, contrasts American slavery with the servitude in Leviticus 25:47-8. It was a purchase of time of service, period, much like apprenticeship. In no way could this practice be called slavery.

We’ve recently seen slavery referred to as a jobs program.

How can you help people in trouble?

Jean-Henri Merle d'Aubigné was a Swiss minister and leader in an evangelical reform movement. He cites Acts 10:38: Jesus went about doing good. If there were more charity in our hearts, there would be more souls saved.

Today, would we be more likely to see the work of the devil be associated with charity? FRC was praising the defeat of “woke foreign aid” in the new budget, w/o backup.

How can you confess the name of Christ?

A post from a contemporary #reformedtheology blog on the whole topic of the problem of evil. They say that the goodness of God is shown within the practices of the Christian community. Fair enuf.

Years ago, upon news about a disease in Africa, the editor/founder of this blog repeatedly posted on Twitter, “Now would be a good time for a travel ban from W. Africa.” Not, how may I serve these people? Not, how may I protect/heal the world (including my family)? But we will erect walls. #jesuswept

Aaron Burr’s cousin, in that they were both grandsons of Jonathan Edwards, the fire and brimstone preacha. [preacha preacha preacha].

Timothy Dwight was Aaron Burr’s cousin. He asks what would Jesus do?

Forgiving, being kind to the unthankful. Deal bread to the hungry and bring the homeless poor into our house [Isaiah 58:6]. We would cover the naked, and not hide ourselves from our own flesh.

Do we see our own flesh, and rehearse a list of how they may have been unsufficiently thankful? Does modern conservative Christianity disciple against Isaiah 58?

How can you follow the example Christ set before us?

William Law, is the #Anglican priest who inspired Wilberforce. If Jesus were true that it’s more blessed to give than receive, then the alms-requestor is our benefactor whom we should thank, and a future advocate for us on the day of judgment, and help us get blessedness.

Are not many Christians making these arguments today? Today, are many the words of many Christian leaders more likely to inspire Noem’s than Wilberforce’s?

How can you view supplicants in light of Jesus’ promise?

Robert South was an Anglican writer and preacher. Here he writes on love. He says that love is only of value when it deals forth benefits in proportion to the need. When it shows itself in universality and constancy. Otherwise it is a trick.

An evangelical preacher on IG decried universality of love, or caring for those in other countries, saying that it was like a father devoting resources to other’s children.

How can you show love that is of reality and value?

Anthony Farindon, Anglican minister, writes on love of mercy (Is 58). The world or our flesh may think we are our own. But God has instituted “reciprocal offices of mercy”: we must do not, not merely refrain from harm of neighbor.

There are modern political views that celebrate the mere lack of not doing harm, at which one’s responsibility is ended.

How can you carry out reciprocal offices of mercy?

William Arnot, Scottish minister, objects to the proverb, “charity begins at home”. It’s used not just for food but even Christian missions to non-Christian nations. The idea is a half-truth, and thus a whole falsehood. Charity begins but does not end at home.

When can we stop pretending there is a valid point to be made by these proverbs?

How can you encourage Christian missions?

Thomas Adams was a Cavinstic/Puritan preacher. Here he considers the effect of charity upon one’s estate. Do not worry that gifts to charity would endanger your children’s financial future. He makes the claim, based on such verses as Proverbs 11:25, that giving to the poor will B a sure “undecaying portion” to one’s posterity.

Do we believe the Bible when it promises rewards for doing good?

How can you set aside fears about charitable works?

I used a service to evaluate my Instagram posting.

ONE, many posts were flagged as “Hate.” Yeah, I was using inflammatory hashtags I disagreed with, like liberalsarestupid, to reach opponents. I now realize wasn’t productive, and may have led to IG de-emphasizing my posts: the shadowban.

TWO, on the other hand, nearly every post was flagged for use of divisive language, mostly were an objection to the original writer. But proclamation, indictment, has long been the message of the church, no?
