The gov does want us all to be compliant. But the gov also knows that the best way to keep control is to keep us fighting against one another. And the best way to do that is to make sure there is always a segment of the population who is always being short-changed. Women, the poor, middle classes, and minorities are their favorite target groups.

Religion: I believe in X, anyone who doesn't believe in X will go to hell.

New Age: I believe in X, anyone who doesn't believe in X is un-enlightened.

Politics: I believe in X, anyone who thinks otherwise is a potential threat.

Progressive woke: I believe in X, anyone who doesn't believe in X is a -phobe or bigot.

Conservative: I believe in X, anyone who doesn't believe in X is a leech.

Realist: I believe in X, and here is the evidence to show why I believe in X.

I think it's interesting that so many white people believe that they have the greatest comprehension on what is and isn't racism to the degree that they feel they can help people of color understand the topic. Same goes for sexism, terrorism, gender, or poverty.

Free speech means you can start your own group, forum, blog, or whatever, and say whatever you want. Within a group like Mastodon instance (or any social platform, for that matter), the people who run it can set pretty much whatever rules they care to. Free speech doesn't mean "I have to give you the forum I run and/or created to say whatever you want."
