Among the updates I’m considering (aside from obvious updating music and scholarship):
—Making the book more high-school friendly. This means really working on the language, developing more assignments/lesson plans, and aligning it with common core standards
—Adopting a very explicit anti-racist framework
—Including a new chapter on rap in music videos/film
#musiced folks: how do you determine seating in your large ensembles? Chair tests? Student strengths? Grades?
I have some questions and some thoughts but would love to hear from others first.
Just finished “Keep sweet, pray and obey” on Netflix about the FDLS and Warren Jeffs, and watched the Hillsong “update” last night. If ever a case were to be made against organized religion…
It breaks my heart that the kids are being raised into a culture like that—not having words for what’s happening to them, or realizing that there are resources available to help them.
My year in review:
—We bought a magnificent house
—Completed my teaching certificate
—Rested (it’s hard for me to do!)
—Saw my contingent faculty article in print
—Celebrated the holidays with family
Happy new year, all! 🥳
In other news, this new fitness tracker app I’m using has me feeling like superman: evidently today I lifted 1765 lbs across all reps in my split-stance row. 🏋️♀️
In reality I lifted 35 lbs a whole buncha times 💪🏼😆
