Just some guy, ya know?

Born and raised in Houston, then spent two decades in Austin, but lately am in Great Falls, Virginia.

Long time linuxite. CLI uber alles. FOSS fanboy. Mostly python lately, but java, C, perl, pascal and others in the past. Interested in Zig, Nim and other lesser-known languages.

@feoh @martin Hey, can you pass on those 'getting started' resources? I ran nix as a package manager for over a year before putting nixos on my daily driver laptop, but I still feel like I'm flailing at the nixos wiki a lot and while I've gotten a little better at writing shel.nix files to define my dev environments, I still view writing a real recipe as Deep Magic and view flakes askance due to all the warnings about them being 'unstable' and 'unfinished'.
@feoh I think for my terminal I use catpuccin Mocha but then override black to be Fully Black 0x000000 instead of the almost-black specified by default.
@feoh You should maybe set https://wezterm.org/config/lua/config/text_min_contrast_ratio.html to something? Note: I only know this feature exists in terminals because I wrote an (unused) implementation of it for ghostty :)

@pjz It came today. I AM EXPERIENCING MOONLANDER ENTRY SHOCK… But having fun being a keyboard n00b all over again :)
@duke_of_germany I think I saw a bug about that ... ah, here, this might be your issue: https://github.com/ziglang/zig/issues/24377
Zig not linking libasan or libubsan binaries by default · Issue #24377 · ziglang/zig

Zig Version 0.14.1 Steps to Reproduce and Observed Behavior Description On the current release of zig, 0.14.1, it appears that zig c++ cannot properly link libasan (or libubsan) on its own. I have ...

@feoh ooh, congrats! Keep your keyboard layout in oryx bookmarked for easy reference/updating as you learn and adjust to it (and it to you!) Mine is at https://configure.zsa.io/moonlander/layouts/J0W7B/latest/0 and... well, It Works For Me :)

#elixirconf2025 starts today! And I'm here! And i don't really know why! Call me elixir-curious, i guess.

@feoh > This is where PC Linux laptop users scold me and tell me that I’m tilting it windmills but they’re wrong.

Ugh. No one can tell you that your personal prefs in a work environment are 'wrong'. If it's what you want, it's what you want; it's like telling someone their favorite flavor of ice cream is wrong.

wrt docker compatible mode... I tried, I really did, but the early version (which seemed to be qemu under the covers) would just randomly hang when trying to run production containers

@webology Not everyone who builds a structure or picks up a wrench is an architect or engineer, so how do you differentiate some trained mainly in something else who then writes that first line of code from someone trained mainly in bending software to their will?

@feoh @1password That exact reason is why I moved my main phone number to be a google voice number and have it forwarded to my 'real' cell number - which android does seamlessly, while letting me use voice.google.com to text with a real keyboard.

PS: work also gave me a mac laptop a few years ago... i convinced them I needed an x86 machine to make building and testing our docker images locally easier, so was able to return the mac for a pretty badass Dell.
