Feeling guilty that I used Christmas gift money to buy new shoes when I'm worried about energy prices & general cost of living increases.
42 years ago today I met the love of my life, one of the best of humanity and the best of men, and for 13 years we shared our lives and made great memories that keep me going long after he died. Alastair is still my beautiful man and I'm grateful.

and for financial reasons I'm having to limit my heating to 19° max for 1½ hours in the morning and 3 in the evening so when settling down to watch tv, listen to the radio or music and when reading I wrap myself in a throw or light duvet with a hot water bottle at my back, on my knees and torso, and I wear thick clothing indoors - and if needed I'll wear mittens and a hat. I'm also keeping a flask of hot water for tea, coffee, etc., to save frequently boiling a kettle.
I wrap up well and do my daily walk plus I'm looking out for warm spaces where I can go during the day without it costing. At home I have three hot water bottles, (I'm off out to get another now), and although briefly I'm tempted is to hide away indoors with the central heating on full all day and to get to bed early and have long lie-ins I daren't allow myself to get into such habits. Stay warm and take care of yourselves and please check in on others. Cold weather really does affect those of us with arthritic, rheumatic and other bone, muscular & skeletal conditions and disabilities quite badly - no doubt those with other conditions too. I've had lots more spasms and my background pain levels are higher and they've got really bad this past few days so I know they're only going to get worse. I'm finding myself slower but I'm keeping mobile, /2
Again I'm reminded my partner Ali died of AIDS related illnesses 29 years ago. Every day I remember him, and our many friends who died. Here in the UK and in other rich nations we have medicine & services, across the world in 2021 1.5 million were infected & around 650,000 died. There is no equality of treatment, there is no cure. Don't be complacent. #WorldAIDSDay
Self-censorship is when fear of consequences stops you from speaking.
When concern or respect for others stops you from speaking, we just call that being a decent human.

Optimism is a political choice. My blog post on the Women's Equality Party and the struggle for survival

Women are Fighting for Survival. So is the Women's Equality Party

I grew up believing the world was getting better. Equality for women and other disadvantaged populations shimmered on the near horizon. It was easy to buy into this notion from the comfort of a white, middle-class family in small-town America, even if my childhood carried hints of harsher realities, whether flashers at the school gates or reverberations from Vietnam. My parents marched against the war and, after we relocated to the UK, took in a draft dodger, who lived with us for years. Their p
