🧬 I am autistic with ADHD and a bunch of chronic illnesses to cope with, so if I seem “rude” I can’t always help it. (Although, I can be a bit of a Cunt about some stuff.)

I’m UK-based and occasionally go on about UK-specific things without clarifying to the wider audience. Remind me.

Mostly talking about accessibility, cats, chronic illness, guitars, music, web development.

Do you have a Substack newsletter that you wish was NOT a Substack newsletter (for whatever reason)? I’ve just spent about six weeks learning how to overcome all the obstacles they put in the way of leaving and would love to help. Let’s talk.

Not to brag, but today I've mopped the bathroom floor and thrown the bathmats through the washer/drier, *and* made myself a proper meal. All despite waking up late with the cat punching me in the face for her food, and having zero energy because chronic illness and fatigue.

So, I might need a month off now.

Trying to log multiple technical issues on the work system. First, the email I replied to came back as “couldn’t deliver, mailbox full” (great work, support team!). Second, the Support AI started a conversation with me on Teams, but I was met with “We are experiencing some technical issues!!! Please try again after sometime!!!” (6 × exclamations, though… really?)

I’ll just sit here and wait.

We need punk rock and heavy metal now more than ever.

So, humanity's epitaph may be:

"We died in a nuclear holocaust rather than arrest a paedophile ring"

Is the BenQ coding monitor any good?

The BenQ coding monitor does come with one major downside, but this monitor surprisingly became my primary monitor on day one.

Currently waiting for a mandatory 2hr session about Agentic AI, enforced by my employer. Regardless of how long I’ve used such tools in my workflow on a personal level, I now have to tick all the company boxes.

I’m referring to this as Performative AI.

Currently open to offers.

The best advice I have for new nerds: Refuse to pay rent.

Don't subscribe. Don't lease. Don't use their cloud. Don't slip down the freemium slope. Don't create accounts on their services.

Buy it once. Run it local. Avoid commercial software.

It'll be a huge pain and you'll be an outsider but it'll be endless, interesting, and hard fun that'll pay you back with a curious mind and an understanding of the fabric of our intellectual infrastructure that will make you light-years more capable, useful, and healthy than the "AI" zombies.

If you're on LinkedIn and are thinking about verifying your account with them, maybe read this first. It walks through LinkedIn's privacy disclosure to identify 17 companies that may receive and process the data you submit, including name, passport photo, selfie, facial geometry, NFC data chip, national ID #, DoB, email, phone number, address, IP address, device type, MAC address, language, geolocation etc. Unsurprisingly, it seems the biggest recipients are US-based AI companies.
