@jonathan don’t tempt me, I have too many domains as it is 🤣

Looking to set up my own stable instance, maybe a semi-public one too, to spread out from mastodon.social. Every little bit helps I guess 😅

What do we like better as a domain name? I'm torn.

My biggest tip for new fedi users is that when people say there's no recommendation algorithm here, they mean it. You really have to work to find things you enjoy, your timeline's not gonna curate itself. Follow lots of people to grow your network and find new people through their boosted posts. Then feel free to unfollow or even block anything you don't vibe with. This is your online space and you can do whatever you want with it.

I’d like to do a re-#introduction but I’m not entirely sure who I am at the moment. Lemme give it a try:

- American expat living in Montreal 🇨🇦
- work as a s/w engineering manager at a local travel startup 💻
- have a love/hate relationship with computers, I did a lot of cool things with them in the past but haven’t for awhile now
- really into photography (https://glass.photo/jacobcook.photo)
- love video games, electronic music and travelling
- 🏳️‍🌈
- left-of-centre but find politics boring atm

@sikkdays I struggle with this at times too.

The mantra “leave things at least a little better than when you started” helps set reasonable expectations.

Beyond that it’s also super important to remember that impact can be measured in many ways. Direct impact of certain actions can be negative but indirect impact of other positive ones can far outweigh / offset.

We’ve all got a role to play in life and it’s easy to miss that by focusing too much on the small stuff. 😁

Since it’s been awhile, here’s a picture of my cat.
Hi friends. Long time no see. How are we doing these days?

Megaforce — Film Frown

We're back and protecting the world from bad movies, like *Megaforce* protects... wait we watched the movie and we're still not clear on what they do. Paul & Chris invite Arden and Jacob on to discuss spandex, 80s car chase films, and a campaign to make the thumb kiss a thing. We are also introduced to the Grease Cinematic Universe. We frown about bad movies so you don't have to.
