Dialup as a kid, Google in college, social media in my 20s, big data/AI in my 30s, web3 in my 40s.

Try to spend outside hiking, biking, running, hooping when I'm not in front of a computer trying to build software companies.

Spending a week in the Bay after a few years. I haven't been this excited to visit a place in a long, long time.

I'm staying in lower Haight, close to a neighborhood where I used to live in San Francisco. I plan to head to a bar to watch the Warriors play. We'll see if the bar still exists.

In the early days, Google search returned authoritative sources when you asked it questions. Now it returns ads, SEO bloat, and the "best" result is almost always Wikipedia. Algo's lost to crowdsourcing.

Will the new algos from #OpenAI also get hacked into irrelevance?

@anildash The world's perception of VC's, founders, and the whole startup culture has become so disconnected from reality that I'm not surprised that young founders are focused on those things.

Then again, when I was young I used to say some pretty stupid shit too. 😅

As a founder who's been working on business applications for almost 20 years, I've gone really deep down the #openai rabbit hole. Will we even need bespoke business applications in the near future? Will chatbots make a comeback? Does human authenticity have value?!

I think I've become as annoying as my #web3 friends were at peak #blockchain.

I will absolutely be using GPT4 to re-write my LinkedIn profile. I truly believe that AI can help me create one of the most obnoxious profiles ever seen https://www.theverge.com/2023/3/15/23640947/linkedin-ai-profile-job-description-tools
LinkedIn is adding AI tools for generating profile and job descriptions

LinkedIn will roll out AI profile and job description generation tools, the company announced. Earlier this month, it announced collaborative articles with AI-generated prompts.

@wnt @caseynewton LinkedIn has always been extreme laggards in any social media development. Like much of big tech...they had one big hit and then used cash from that to build all kinds of copycat products/features that people barely use.

LinkedIn is where people go to get jobs and find sales leads. Everything else on LinkedIn gets miniscule usage and is paid for by cash from these two features. Specifically, companies trying to hire and sales people trying to fill your inbox with messages.

I'm not saying this is a bad thing. If I had a big hit I would also use that cash to try to build another big hit. In many cases, it's the impetus for major acquisitions.

In this case, LinkedIn was gobbled up by Microsoft for the same reason.

@ariegoldshlager @caseynewton I understand it's satire but as someone who's been working on B2B SaaS apps for a very long time, I'm starting to wonder if the average citizen will simply be able to ask AI to copy their favorite app for them and use it for free...

@silo64 @caseynewton First of all, he's joking. 😅

Any AI generated text usually needs a heavy round of human editing. And after the editing, most HM's won't be able to tell the difference between what was AI generated or not.

As AI gets better soon, you won't know the difference between what was created by human and created by AI. And if you want to get even deeper... Does it matter?

I also imagine the Bots have yet to invade Mastodon. On Twitter I'm pretty sure I spent half my time rage replying to a bot.
