Exactly 14 years ago , Satoshi Nakamoto designed the most pathetic / inefficient system ever invented by humankind : the blockchain.

Today, it weights 60 000 tons, wastes constantly 10 gigawatts (more than Belgium or Chile) to process less than 7 transactions per second :

Less than a 33 bps modem from 1990.

This could be a joke if it didn't have such gigantic environmental impact, wasn't enabling billion dollars ransomware industry and was not crushing thousands of lives in the process.

Most flux towers are part of a pair of 2+ towers. We quantified their climate & soils* and made a global database** that shows what paired towers do & don't measure. Any additional info welcome plz just let me know!

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENTO’NEILL SCHOOL OF PUBLIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRSINDIANA UNIVERSITY-BLOOMINGTON CAMPUSOPEN RANK (Tenured/Advanced Tenure Track) FACULTY POSITION INNATURAL CLIMATE SOLUTIONSThe O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University – Bloomington seeks applicants for an open rank (tenured/advanced tenure-track), faculty position in terrestrial natural or nature-based climate solutions for forest, agricultural and/or wetland ecosystems. These strategies include, but are not limited to, reforestation and avoided deforestation, agricultural practices like cover cropping and biochar amendments, enhanced rock weathering, and/or wetland restoration and conservation. We encourage applications from scholars whose research investigates the physical and/or social factors that determine the potential of these strategies to increase ecosystem carbon uptake and storage, to reduce natural emissions of greenhouse gasses, and/or to enable resilient and adaptive management into the future. Successful applicants may conduct research that spans multiple spatial or temporal scales, and that uses a diverse set of tools and approaches, including field and laboratory measurements, network-enabled synthesis, agent-based and/or ecosystem modeling and forecasting, remote sensing, interviews and surveys, and economic analyses and modeling.The successful applicant will also demonstrate their ability to make effective contributions to undergraduate and graduate teaching, and to engage in service to the O’Neill School and Indiana University. Interest in disciplinary and interdisciplinary collaborations is strongly supported and encouraged.
