#Purplecon was rad. Favourite part was @sereeena ’s history of HTTPS and why chrome removed the lock icon.
I got some serious flashbacks from the Internet Explorer warning about a page using HTTPS.

I dunno why everyone wants to work for big tech companies. Sounds like a nightmare to me, but I’ve never done it so who am I to judge?
@bcantrill similarly “this thing is hard and risky, so let’s do the easier less risky thing instead” when again thats based on a short sighted view and is impossible to quantify long term
@bcantrill this summarises something that’s been bothering me for a long time. A knee jerk reaction to building something can often be “this thing does it already so it’ll be cheaper” with no quantifiable way to prove that. It’s an assumption many people hold and can be really hard to dislodge.

“If we were using linux as our host operating system we’d have to have our own distro, which is a huge undertaking… you’re spending (your innovation tokens) on toil not on innovation“ @bcantrill

Innovation Tokens with Charity Majors

Listen to this episode from Oxide and Friends on Spotify. Charity Majors joined Bryan, Adam, and the Oxide Friends to talk about the idea of "innovation tokens"--a fixed budget for, so called, "innovative" projects. When is boring better and when is innovation the safer approach? Is Oxide issuing innovation tokens in some sort of hyper-inflationary cycle!?In addition to Bryan Cantrill and Adam Leventhal, we were joined by special guest Charity Majors. Some of the topics we hit on, in the order that we hit them:Glyph: Against Innovation TokensCharity's Twitter ThreadOxF: Let That Sink In!
