I was a Synthetic Biologist before it was cool. Head of Codebase at Ginkgo Bioworks. Ask me about cell programming, biosecurity, or cats

@p_maverick_b on twitter

@NatalieMaPhD Eldritch horrors have a long doubling time so you should be good
@thuronyi having a more developed Android app than an iPhone app is very on-brand for Mastodon 😂
@patrickboyle yeah, like I get why you might think I want all salads. But that’s not why I’m at the bakery
@contaminatedsci I didn't come here to make friends, I came here to post cc @synbio1
While I'm griping about Mastodon, the interface seems purposely designed to dampen engagement, e.g. most interfaces hide the number of reblogs/favs a toot has. Toots don't really seem to build momentum as a result - maybe some people see that as a feature but I need my dopamine hit
My mastodon feed feels like a conference poster session where the wine hasn't come out yet...
Dreams are tools for organizing ourselves. Nightmares are easier to shout but hide a cost; collective action requires enough believe the nightmare is real (e.g., "climate change" as a narrative frame has & will make "climate emergency" inevitable). Positive dreams are harder to organize but enable collective action in advance of reality (e.g., MLK Jr. et al.). Let us imagine "climate opportunity" leading to "climate awesome" etc.
@kath @contaminatedsci yeah, flight info is publicly posted data - sports reporters break news on deals via tracking flights all the time. Plus the passenger manifest isn't public, just the fact that a plane registered to Elon is flying somewhere
@dplattsf @synbio1 then investors would literally be left holding the bag - sustainable bio-based bags
@dplattsf @synbio1 we should probably mint a new StableBean
