Attached: 2 images Behind the scenes of our 'solarcan' project: Basically a pinhole camera made from a food can on a magnetic base. The birght areas on the top right on the final picture posted by @pandora are from reflections inside the can despite it being sprayed with black paint. This will be improved with future builds. https://chaos.social/@pandora/114448760337298517

@fesix and I had our first go with solargraphy (multi day / weeks / month long exposure on photo paper ). On our first attempt we weren’t that patient and only exposed for a week. The (inverted) result is still quite impressive!

Bought some photosensitive paper, developer and fixer, placed the paper in a 70 year old medium format camera instead of film and took this picture of @pandora. This was the first time I ever used a full manual analog camera and also never developed film or paper myself. Really happy for my very first try.

Paper: Easy Print 311
Camera: Zeiss Super Ikonta 532
80mm f/2.8 0.1s
Developer: ADOX Neutol Eco 50s
Stopper: 1% citric acid
Fixer: ADOX Adofix Plus 60s

This is what the silicone capybara night light looks under x-ray. More detailed descriptions in the alt texts.

In the unlikely case you ever wondered what the x-ray of this relay looks like
Apple Vision Pro... Visible Light ws Infrared picture... kinda cool looking

Since some of u asked. A normal daylight picture without any filters

@thegcat @nd @fluffy

That's what an induction cooktop looks on a camera without IR filter

@thegcat @nd @fluffy

@pandora @thegcat @nd @fluffy that's a dynamic induction stovetop, if its of interest, these pictures were the reason I took a IR surveillance camera to my regular cheapo (~400€) Ikea Induction stovetop with regular circular setup, if of interest I can retake them after I cleaned it up and post it :D

@Jay16K @pandora @thegcat @nd Ah, cool, I thought those were only theoretical hyped-up "next generation" things, and I didn't realize any dynamic induction cooktops were actually on the market! Now I'm wondering how consistent the thermal coverage is on them.

And yes I'd love to see a traditional burner setup's induction element configuration.

@fluffy @Jay16K @pandora @nd gaggenau (and probably others) have been doing free placement ones for years. You’re paying the price of a small car for an oven and a cooktop though šŸ˜…

@thegcat @fluffy @Jay16K @nd but tbh the one that I have that is shown in the picture is ā€žonlyā€œ about 700€ and it is semi free placement
@pandora @thegcat @Jay16K @nd that’s pretty good for a high-quality built-in cooktop anyway, even not induction.

@pandora sorry I didn't mean that they still are expensive, just that there have been models for years as @fluffy thought they're a novelty. The Gaggenau ones are the ones I've known for a long-ish time and they're pretty pricy, I didn't mean to suggest they're the only ones and that every single one is expensive, sorry.

Here's a bit of innards porn, 40-odd coils, you can put pour pots wherever and they can have whichever shape, and some models can track the shape and size of your cookware and continue with whatever setting they had after the cookware has been moved https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twYJHMthZg4

@pandora oh dang I'm gonna have to go find the webcam I removed the IR cut filter from so I can take a look at mine
@pandora can you get a close-up of the control board at the front? that looks like some serious power electronics porn. I think I count at least 24 power stages.
@gsuberland @pandora here's the one from mine which blew up (+some unsuccessful attempted repairs)
@russss @pandora surprisingly simple design! those IGBTs or FETs on the heatsink?

@gsuberland yeah this one is ~15 years old now, and died several years ago. I still haven't got a new one because it's flush-mounted in my granite worksurface and the surprisingly modular design meant that half of it still works.

They are FETs, if I remember correctly...

@gsuberland @pandora ah and here's the before-attempted-repairs picture (I think it fried a good portion of the driver...)

@russss @pandora toasty!

interesting topology. pass capacitor reminds me of isolated Ćuk.

@russss @pandora wait, I read it backwards. probably just a normal boost converter.
@pandora oh wow that’s really cool to see
@pandora Hui! Schick! Variable Positionierung und tut mit größeren Pfannen.
@pandora Confirmed after enabling the Nightshot feature on my old Sony HD Handycam.
@pandora They should always look like that. Way cooler.
@pandora wow incredible! Did you switch from gas to induction or from standard electric to induction? What was it like making the change?
@vera that’s the first kitchen in this apartment… so it’s not really a switch
@pandora oh ok. I hear induction stovetop are getting more and more popular but I have not seen one in the wild before lol. Anyway it's an awesome pic!
@vera they are actually quite common in Germany even tho I can’t give you exact numbers
@pandora ah. I'm in the US, that explains the difference. Here it's quite rare
@vera @pandora
Standard at Ikea for 10 Years, now starting from €79.

@pandora that’s super cool! Could you also show the visible-light version to see how the advertised induction zones line up with the magnets?

Also it’s interesting that they still chose to use IR-transmissive glass. I guess there’s no reason *not* to even if there’s no advantage for induction, and they already have their manufacturing there for radiant cooktops.

@pandora Nice, I cannot look through mine with my modded camera, but I snapped a picture when a technician was changing the module a while back.

This is a Bosch stove top, with "FlƤcheninduktion" (Areainduction? Doesn't matter where pots and pans are placed, it is however divided in two zones - left and right and can handle two pots/pans on each half)

@pandora
... Why is Big Induction hiding this from us?

They could double their sales with this style.

@pandora Do you know which brand/model of induction cooktop that is?
@scanner it’s a ā€œBosch PXY875DC1E Serie 8 Induktionskochfeld, 80cm breitā€
@pandora You're saying my induction plate rings are not rings at all? 🤯
@pandora It should always look like that. šŸ˜
