So. Over the weekend, my best friend was demonstrating that his ear is good enough that he can pick up the difference between an accent from Statesboro, Georgia, and Swainsboro, Georgia. Bearing my mongrel history in mind, what, I ask him, is my accent? Reply: a hot mess.
