@TarkabarkaHolgy OK. I'm often asked to translate books until they learn it takes 6m, costs £10K+, and seldom finds a publisher (we/they'd never recoup the costs), so it's a post-retirement labour of love. Sometimes you can 'get the gist' via MT/AI then focus on short passages for the human touch. There's some Sanada stuff at 青空文庫 - use MT, e.g. https://www-aozora-gr-jp.translate.goog/cards/000083/files/1367_36746.html?_x_tr_sl=ja&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en-US&_x_tr_pto=wapp ... If you're willing to risk OCR too, there's also https://manga.line.me/product/periodic?id=S138955 - but probably still in copyright.

@TarkabarkaHolgy It's starting to come back... might you have said something like you were annoyed how nobody had translated it yet (even perhaps a comment that it ought to be done as having them in English would get a wider readership, or something along those lines)?
@TarkabarkaHolgy Might well have been, if that rings a bell (that is my expertise, although I'm mainly on Mastodon for folklore stuff)
@TarkabarkaHolgy Here's a mystery I hope you can help solve. You posted something (maybe around 20 July 2023 judging by the URL?) that I wanted to answer when I had more time. I bookmarked it from https://folksocial.org/@TarkabarkaHolg[email protected]/110745406044617343 *but* FolkSocial have redirected to BlueSky and all past posts seem to be lost, inc. many I wanted to save. 😠 I can find no archive copy, not even on Ohai. 😞 Do you still have it? I've a vague recollection it may have been about a translation annoyance, but that could be wrong.

Mastodon doesn't really do threads, but using the tag #folkbooks we'll try to fake it & suggest five folios for #folklore fans seeking last-minute gifts, focused on our East Kent tradition of #hoodening (with Amazon links for simplicity; good alternatives such as Bookshop.org and EuroBook can be found on the #OzaruBooks site at https://ozaru.net/ozarubooks/contact.html). @SocOnePlaceStudies Thanks for this - just the other day was looking at the Cambridge archive with some 1946 pics, but this has 1944 which forms a great comparison.
@alexisbushnell Probably too early to pick though - people say 'after first frost'
@alexisbushnell look like sloes to me - especially if they're sour & astringent (make your mouth feel dry), little flesh (big stone), thorns (it's a.k.a. blackthorn) and can be 'polished' to a darker blue. They make lovely jam, wine, gin, etc.
