Hey lemmy folks, some of you might know me as the developer of RDX for Reddit an open-source, free, ad-free Reddit client that is quite popular here. Two months ago i release. an offline-first, ad-free chess puzzles app that hit Hackernews #1. I thought I should share it with you people too. Presenting OffChess [https://offchess.com/], Built by me because I got frustrated with needing WiFi just to practice chess, thought, why not train anywhere: on planes, trains, even in sketchy tunnels. This has broken the random functionality on my rdx for Reddit [https://overdevs.com/rdx] app and possibly other apps. They keep breaking one feature or another and it’s getting hard to maintain the app now. They also removed these other features: 1/ Subdomain subreddit redirect: This is where “<anything>.reddit.com” is currently redirected to “reddit.com/r/ [http://reddit.com/r/]<anything>”, 2. r/random, r/randnsfw, r/myrandom, and reddit.com/random [http://reddit.com/random] 3. old.reddit.com [http://old.reddit.com] Snoovatars 4. Saving posts and comments with category or by subreddit. The don’t even announce it on announcements. The free app was launched on Play store almost a month ago and has garnered some excellent reviews. A lot of users asked for a more polished viewer with more features and users in the EU now can not add web apps to home screen, so I spent some time building an iOS app. You can also save images and videos/gifs from Reddit now. It’s stil completely free (with an optional donate option available), the web app also works. Apple is removing PWA(progressive web apps) from EU Which means: 1. Your subscribed subs will be removed if you don’t use the app in the last 7 days - https://stackoverflow.com/a/76792560 [https://stackoverflow.com/a/76792560] 2. Your saved posts will be removed in the same way, and all other settings if you don’t consistently use the website. 3. You won’t get the options I have added like a fixed header for standalone version. So any PWA website that you currently use won’t be able to store anything in your localstorage for more than 7 days after you visiting that website.
