We've been running space heaters in the house because the heat's been off -- the heat pump control boards got fried 'cause of power problems on the grid -- but we've been making do 'cause what else are we gonna do in 2023?

It's starting to warm up, though, and our space heater is actually pretty good. Last night Keet had it up a little too high and I spent the whole night either sweating while it was running or freezing while it was off.

I ended up getting three hours of sleep and have a sinus headache from dehydration.

For the life of me, I could not find these steps anywhere at all. This is not by far the most permanent form of documention, but it is the widest-spread while I figure out how to document it properly on my site.

1. Create a Personal Access Token with repo and user permissions. WRITE DOWN THE TOKEN. You're going to need it later.

2. Create a Repository Secret, give it a distinctive name, and then put the PAT from step 1 inside the secret as its data.

3. Set up your GitHub Action as normal. When calling actions/checkout@v2, pass in a token parameter whose value is ${{ secrets.<name of Repository Secret from step 2> }}

Steel thread complete.

It's the full communication stack. Immature, but functional.

The Serviceberry: An Economy of Abundance – Robin Wall Kimmerer

As Robin Wall Kimmerer harvests serviceberries alongside the birds, she considers the ethic of reciprocity that lies at the heart of the gift economy.

Seriously considering a home freeze dryer. I have had a terrible idea.

In 2021, the weird are turning pro."
... so many. *sip*

The next part of my self-automation project is just starting to come together.

Most importantly, I have a partner lined up so I'm not doing this alone. I'm gonna be doing a lot of teaching alongside the work, but that's good work to have.

I've got a documented list of skillsets I think I need, a clear visualization of the architecture, and enough of a name to set up a GitHub repo.

This might actually happen.

Progress report for the first three months, give or take: positive. nine kilos down, forty-nine to go. Might not make goal weight, but any progress is good progress.
