BITD I fancied myself an ascii artist, so I made a logo for Fixme. Now I made a gravestone to close the circle.

Ski touring trips tend to need a car. You need to be able to get to the mountain, and you want to be able to pick between different spots according to conditions.

What makes Pallas unique is that there's an old hotel right at the tree line, and you can ski up multiple nearby fells straight from the front door! Reaching the hotel by public transport used to be tricky, but these days some of the night trains have matching buses.

I love being able to take a night train and a bus from Helsinki bursting with spring to Pallas to get a last taste of winter. Enjoyed blue bird days (with already 14.5h of sunlight!) of skiing velvety compact snow.

Well, not all the days or birds were blue. Try to find the ptarmigan (kiiruna) in the whiteout in the last pic!

Excellent weekend on the ice!

Wing skiing on friday, tour skating on saturday & sunday. The sea ice wasn't that great but it was very skateable after a weather break of many weeks. The sun & friends made for a very nice day out.

Also tried out wing + skates on the ice, and it was surprisingly easy to just punch through the rough spots.

Perfect bluebird day in Andermatt. Uphill felt easy, then some light scrambling to reach an untouched valley with the alleged Source of The Rhein.

Came to Switzerland to meet some friends & ski. However conditions are more suited to climbing right now. Crazy: +10°c here, -20°c again back home.

Pretty pleased with myself - onsighted two 6a's.

44km, 5.5h including sunny lunch & coffee breaks.
Spent a freezing night at the family summer place, enjoying clear star-bright skies. The purpose was to enjoy the astounding sea ice in the Archipelago National Park just now. We were able to skate to Brännskär and Bergholm, places we usually see only when sailing!
Left work early, skated into the sunset.
The sea ice is finally in condition for skating! Saw cool ice flowers and ice statues on our trip today.
