Building a sustainable global platform for research, knowledge exchange, and policy engagement around the impact of open technologies.

Open source research software underpins modern science but its sustainability is increasingly fragile. A new report from Ithaka S+R highlights weak incentives, unstable funding, and lack of recognition for software as a core research output.

Closing this gap means treating research software as essential infrastructure backed by proper incentives, funding, and coordination.

Thatโ€™s where OTR comes in, turning insight into durable impact.

Youโ€™ll also find a curated roundup of key developments in open technology, from national OSPO initiatives and the growth of digital commons to new research on open source AI, public infrastructure, and software sustainability. Plus, we highlight fresh opportunities and tenders, including a call for consultants and workshop submissions.
In this issue, we share progress on shaping the next Research Agenda, including ongoing consultations with policymakers and past Symposium participants. Weโ€™ll also be announcing the Call for Proposals and venue for the upcoming Open Technology Research Symposium soon.

Weโ€™ve just sent out the latest edition of the Open Technology Research newsletter.

Weโ€™re continuing to engage more voices -- especially women and more participants from across Africa.
