Amazing that only a couple of years after we stood on our doorsteps and clapped nurses, they're having to strike. The Tories are utter utter bastards.
A ‘town square’ cannot be owned by a billionaire. That’s called a mall, and malls suck.
Some people coming over from the bird site seem to be annoyed at Mastodon’s inability to cope sometimes, the glitchy apps and rather convoluted federated system. But that’s the trade off for a horizontal, non-commercialised entity. This place is run by the users. It’s more like co-operative housing - with all its glorious DIY mentality on show - than a 5-star condo and that’s the whole point.

The whole idea of the town square is that it belongs to the town. No one should be able to buy it. And honestly, they can’t.

Twitter isn’t really the town square, any more than Facebook is or MySpace was.

We are the town square. It goes where we go. No one can buy that.

Update: they didn’t suck. They slapped
Seeing Mellor tonight in #Shoreditch in what is the first proper gig in ages (since lockdown). I don’t care if they suck, just being in a live music venue will rock hard enough.
Not going to lie - this emoji slaps
The late great David Graeber wrote in his work Revolution in Reverse, that the imagination was not just a fantasy world of escapism. It is a "constituent element in how we produce our social and material realities". Imagination is key to resistance.
Hot tip! Opening up Mastodon rather than Twitter first thing does wonders for your mental wellbeing and general mood for the day. Save the Armageddon for at least you’ve finished your first coffee…
