Bird update: after hearing a pecking noise in the closet, it seemed that our Woodpecker friend regained his energy. He still stayed in the box, but he let us know he’s ready to go.
So we let him out in the garage and flew outdoors to the tundra.

So while we lost power in the blizzard, at least we saved a Woodpecker who clung to the door. He’s chipper in a box, tucked away in a closet from the cats right now. We tried making more safe havens for the other birds, but they all went back to the woods after the Woodpecker rescue.
But yes, the cat was quiet confused when the bird was no longer there on the door.
