Along the lonely US395, in California but on the other side of the mountains, and flagged by a highway sign and some rock pillars is a monument that the US tried to forget
Thousands of Japanese were interred here during WWII stripped of their freedom, their property, their belongings, much of which was never recovered
Most of the site was bulldozed after the war, trying to give it back to the chaparral
Foundations like the hospital here and the cemetery are all that is left

Summit Tunnel was one of the most important tunnels that created the Transcontinential Railroad. Near Soda Springs (above Donner Lake) on old Hwy 40 it's a ~1700' long tunnel basted out of granite, and has long been abandoned.
It is, of course, trespassing on UP land, so nobody ever hikes or bikes thru the tunnel and the miles of snow sheds beyond every summer.

Sacramento Valley Station was built in 1926, and while on the outside is unassuming brick, the station proper is "renaissance revival" combining a lot of classical vibes with some art deco appointments.
Unfortunately with all the ongoing transit changes they opted to not move the station, so eventually it'll be "freed up for other uses", which given its awkward location I hope it isn't left to rot.

Afghani beef korma for dinner, partially because it avoided going to the store.
I believe the phrase was "if you keep doing that, momma's going to slap you with a fish"
(actual slapping didn't happen)
