Interesting preprint: E. Liu et al., "Forward Pass: On the Security Implications of Email Forwarding Mechanism and Policy"¹

A great survey of email authentication and forwarding quirks of major mail providers, and how this could be used for spoofing and passing #DMARC checks.

According to the authors, any domain hosted on #O365 could be successfully spoofed using another O365 domain and a forwarding rule. #GMail hosted domains could also be spoofed if they hosted a M-L, for example.

Most impacted providers have apparently fixed the vulnerabilities✨

Ooh that's nice, Github has just added support for multiple social network links on your GH profile 🤩​

All the links have rel="me", so you can link to your Mastodon profile with an appropriate icon now, *and* get a verified Github link in your mastodon profile. No more cheating with the website field, or custom github pages.

Been playing with the link #verification that mastodon implements, trying to get it to work with a GitHub link. Don't have a blog, don't want one.

The verification relies on the target page linking back to your mastodon profile with a rel="me" attribute.

Turns out Github sets it for the main "website" link in your GH Profile, so if you're willing to sacrifice that spot to point it to your mastodon profile, you're done! ​

If you'd rather use an alternative page, remember that `yourusername.github.io` is reserved for you, so you can put the backlink there if you prefer. GH has a helpful doc for setting up your personal page, as always: https://docs.github.com/en/pages/quickstart
