@slackz He wasn't interested in a conversation. Anyone who asked him to change at all was a problem in his eyes. He also questioned CWs and mentioned them as "self-censorship". He didn't want to be part of the community. He wanted the community stage.
I guess one thing I just thought of: He wasn't here as Wil Wheaton. He was here as the brand: Wil Wheatonβ’οΈ
If we chased off an ill-behaved brand like... Wendy's, would it be a problem? I don't think so.
wilw wasn't here to engage with Mastodon. He left twitter but missed having an audience. He wanted "twitter without the nagging of my conscience".
He posted a twitter thread telling marginalized folks it was dangerous to be here. To this space that has lots of marginalized folks. Many of whom he helped chase off birdsite.
He wanted his Twitter audience back.
He only followed 18 people. He didn't want a community. He wanted a stage.
I've liked Wil Wheaton. I wanted him to be in the right this time.
He wasn't. Not really.
His "I'm not transmisogynist/misogynist" post even admits he promoted a blocklist with lots of trans folk. He does not acknowledge the hurt he caused. He most assuredly does not apologize for the hurt he caused. He just explains his reasons.
To my fellow cis white dudes: If you are explaining and not apologizing, you are making it worse. Stop digging.
