I had lunch today with a parent who was agonizing over when to reveal that Santa wasn’t real to his kids and when I pointed out that his church has taught him the exact same fable about his god (don’t be naughty, he’s watching you, and you’ll end up on the naughty list and face eternal damnation instead of a lump of coal) he seemed genuinely shocked.
