Hey Mastodon, could you help me spread the word about my Etsy shop? A sale or two would be a colossal help.
All of my creations are designed, hand-sewn, hand-embroidered by me. Each takes many hours to make.
Looked at a neat Etsy shop, where Etsy had indicated that there's only one left "and it's in someone's cart."
Is that Etsy attempting to get me to try to buy it before they can check out? That's really fucked up.
Seriously, who cares if Jeff #Bezos is getting married 🥱
I find this mannequin of him floating on the side of a cardboard Amazon box while clutching a wad of cash much more interesting.
I saw a post earlier from someone wondering if they could just use PeerTube's JavaScript player code to make any video file p2p without a PeerTube server being involved.
Made me realize I had no idea how PeerTube actually works. I couldn't actually find a video that had any other viewers involved, but the basic video playing mechanism is fairly well distributed as-is.
Basically there's a playlist containing chunks to be streamed, and it alternates between hosts where those chunks should be fetched. The video I was testing with said "18 peers" and those peers were other PeerTube instances.
It's unclear what happens if another viewer appears, though. I had thought there was a webtorrent component involved, but it wasn't immediately clear from just watching requests how that would even work in conjunction with the streaming playlist.
I keep finding myself thinking about the Thnickels guy.
So many little things in that page crack me up. One of my favorites is referring to social media as "societal media."
