I try to intersperse nonfiction in between all the fiction I read. Problem is most of the nonfiction I read is depressing.

Le Guin's The Dispossessed, the amatonormativity brought the experience down for me... A personal problem, I suppose... I hear the Left Hand of Darkness is kind of the opposite in that regard so maybe I'd enjoy reading that next.

Japan has a spotty history with this sort of thing, which is I think one of the reasons I enjoy seeing a positive version of it in Japanese media.

I quite like the archetype of effeminate men who are are respected as badasses instead of treated like jokes, like Oren Pierre Alfonzo from Kamen Rider Gaim and Sylvando (Sylvie) from Dragon Quest XI. (Although Gaim did have a few moments that leaned into joke-y territory)
