Privacy @twilio. Board member @EngineOrg. Queer. Dorky. I love your pronouns. Lawyer, not really searching for redemption. Pro-Jorts. Go loud.

I'm taking a month off — much needed — and I start tackling a new adventure at the end of February. New things to build. New challenges to overcome. I'll have to actually deal with ads! Terrifying.

Watch this space, I'll tell you all more about it when I'm ready. But until then, I'm just gonna take some time and appreciate what I've had and what I've accomplished.

It's hard to sum up four years. It's a LOT, and I don't normally talk about myself. But I've had a hell of a run there, and I'm so grateful for the time I've had and the team I've had with me. Thank you.

Most of Twilio’s public-facing privacy pages are mine, or drafted by my team and me. We built the Privacy Center at https://www.twilio.com/privacy, which I’m so, so proud of. We made our Privacy Notice (https://www.twilio.com/legal/privacy) so user friendly and clear, and same with our Employee Privacy Notice (https://www.twilio.com/legal/employee-privacy).

I’m so, so proud of this work and the team that worked on these things with me (Magdala, Goldy, Nathan, not on the dinosite, but absolute rockstars).

Twilio

I led our employee data protection program through a global pandemic, helping to build processes to collect and protect sensitive data like vaccination status as we returned to offices while caring for employee rights; I managed breach notifications for some pretty harrowing security incidents and worked with our security team to build a very resilient data breach response program.

My team and I built our Privacy Knowledge Base. We built our privacy training. We built our internal guidance.

I don't know how many privacy friends I have OnHere, but it is about that time...

....I am leaving Twilio next week.

It's been a really incredible four years. I have built things I'm so proud of: I built a team of brilliant young privacy pros, each of whom has gone on to explore and develop their own specialties in privacy; I built a global privacy program that assessed compliance in data protection laws around the world and communicated our position clearly without getting lost in legalese;

I really love how easy it is to add a word to my mute list on Mastodon.
“Layoffs are a social contagion.” This quote is gold. From: https://news.stanford.edu/2022/12/05/explains-recent-tech-layoffs-worried/
What explains recent tech layoffs, and why should we be worried? | Stanford News

As layoffs in the tech sector mount, Stanford Graduate School of Business Professor Jeffrey Pfeffer is worried. Research – by him, and others – has shown that the stress layoffs create takes a devastating toll on behavioral and physical health and increases mortality and morbidity substantially. Layoffs literally kill people, he said.

🚨Hey, PSA for fellow Californians:🚨

If you get a call allegedly from CDPH (CA Dept of Public Health) asking you to schedule a booster appointment: DO NOT GIVE OUT PERSONAL INFORMATION.

I just received such a weird call, and we can't verify it's actually from CDPH yet.

I'm so over all the people saying that there should be a moderate Republican nominee for Speaker that Democrats would compromise on to get us over this mess.

A) excuse please what "moderate" Republicans are left? And what would they be bringing to the table that would be palatable? and B) excuse please why the hell should the Democrats break ranks? We're not the problem here. Our shit's in order. We're fine. Clean up your own backyard.

You want a compromise, get on board.
