I have just experienced my first gender critical in the wild and it really was wild.

I’m sitting in a coffee shop in a Scottish town, and a woman went up to the counter and remonstrated with the staff, because the toilets were not segregated into male and female. She berated them for several minutes before storming out with her friend, declaring she will not be back.

The toilets about which she was complaining are behind a door marked with the symbols ♿️🚼🚻.

People learned all the wrong lessons from Covid. Millions dead and countless variants is a massive failure. What we should learn is that, when the next pandemic hits, we have to deal with it much more aggressively. You only have a moment to close Pandora’s box so you have to do it right. As it happens, what we *really* need to learn is that that’ll never happen: the government showed us that we’re on our own, with pandemics or climate change or anything that’s not profitable to deal with.
