Champaign-Urbana is as dull as toast so I can see why home values have dropped 11% and looking at the college tuition, which seems higher than California rates I can understand totally why nobody would wanna attend/live there. Sheesh!
Drop tuition and people will move there I think, young and old.

Some thoughts on 2026.
This is not Trump's fault (just want to make that disclosure)
Right now-
- Startup failure rates have readjusted to their normal 90%
- AI Startup failure rates are way over 90%. Probably will end up at 99% failure rates.
On the 90% failure rate-
Most startups imho are booted to give a CEO+executive staff luxury time- another issue. Basically, if you can talk the talk you don't need to ever work. All of the guys I know in the executive realm seem to operate this way, unfortunately (unfortunately coz I don't want to work wtih them).
Get rid of those guys and you can have startups that have much better 60-70% failure rates. That's where we should head. Dump the serial-entrepreneurs.
Two issues there really. I can think of various AI startups to well... startup but it's just not good for either California or America to pursue them. However, there are a number of startups one could do now that are.
If you're considering a startup, please peruse over whether you want to be a ne'er-do-well Palo Alto-style AI startup company or maybe something real, involving work on your part.

"President Newsom" is a shoe-in in 2028... unless something completely unexpected happens- like a shooting war with chiner.
The reason why President Newsom will win next term is... because he knows all the arguments. His ex-wife was Republican and they argued every issue, reportedly. So he knows how to appeal to both sides, he just never has.
What you're going to run into with him is completely unexpected. He's playing dumb... as if he doesn't know what's going on. But when that election cycle starts... BOOM. Look out. We'll get played but he will win the next election, regardless.
