After finishing the Korean course on #Duolingo (I did not get gold everywhere) I let my subscription expire. And, wow, I did not remember how annoying Duolingo is without a subscription!
1. You can’t do skill practices.
2. Doing the legendary things costs gems …
3. It tells you how awesome the subscription is at every opportunity. (Although it also tried to get me to subscribe to Max while I had Super.)
4. The advertisements are super long and annoying. And the Duolingo Super advertisement has the sound on per default.
5. You can only make 5 mistakes. And some lessons are just petty. Had one today that had both beach and beaches as a word. And I clicked the wrong one because I was not concerned enough (see screenshot).
I liked doing the mo the badges, but I probably won’t do that anymore. The only thing keeping me going now is my 700-something day streak and the friend quests. And that is probably a good reason for them to exist in the first place …
Not sure I will keep it up like this. Without practice, I will loose some of the stuff I learned though. Should have made Anki cards for everything, I guess. 🤔
