When Google tried to make the "Web Environment Integrity" standard. I saw one response was to block browsers that had it enabled.
I wonder if we can do the same for device attestation: websites refusing to serve devices that support this Vendor lock in tech.

Not sure it would be great it suddenly your website was unusable on iOS and Most android devs. But with some good design maybe people will complain to their phone vendors enough.

who is paying for these “age verification” laws? we need to find the names of the fascists flooding the zone with these proposals. wouldn’t shock me if all roads lead to Palantir and Gay Hitler.

@dalias the commenters being all "man it sucks that we have to fork the repo just to fix this bug that the maintainers don't want us to fix" is really galling.

A lot of the pro-AI folks flirt with conspiracist thinking when they run into pushback and it's a bit scary.

@nirya the best thing (I remember, from mine) about your first talk is not having to do a first talk again. <3
Anytime I say #AbolishThePolice someone inevitably comes along and asks “but who will keep us safe without the cops?” and meanwhile thousands of regular people in Minneapolis have spontaneously self-organized a round-the-clock patrol of the city, replete with a city-wide intelligence network and radio dispatch system, to keep themselves safe from violent assaults by the police.
@calisti you think that's weird?

there's a hardcoded 32-byte AES key the firmware uses to encrypt passwords... except they fucked up (made an array of u32 and not u8) and 3/4 of the key is zeroes

not that it matters a lot given it's hardcoded

"My husband complains about the cold," the man said. "Can you teach me a spell to keep him warm?"

"I can teach you to bind hair into a net to catch heat," the wizard said, "using arcane counting and a pair of fine wands."

After a while, the man said "Isn't this knitting?"

"This, too, is magic."
