"There is no standard diagnosis for ‘phone addiction’," says the Guardian. Yeah, because it doesn't fucking exist. Bullshit #MoralPanic.

Everyone is on their phones. But is it really phone addiction we’re experiencing? https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/ng-interactive/2024/jan/03/what-is-phone-addiction-definition-science-debate?CMP=share_btn_tw

Everyone is on their phones. But is it really phone addiction we’re experiencing?

There is no standard diagnosis for ‘phone addiction’, and a debate rages about whether there should be. But will medicalizing a behavior help or harm those suffering from it?

No, a marketing firm isn’t tapping your device to hear private conversations

"Real-time" listening claims were exaggerated, but the creepy factor remains.

First half, a pathetic performance by lobbyist for Canada's legacy newspaper hedge funds justifying the end result of their C-18 baksheesh bill. Google comes off well. Facebook traffic to news is forever lost thanks to them. Net: likely worse off.

»Die EU braucht eine eigene atomare Abschreckung«, sagt Joschka Fischer. Die Welt habe sich verändert, so der Ex-Außenminister. Kremlchef Putin schrecke schließlich auch nicht vor nuklearer Erpressung zurück.

@mattewanlaws I doubt Opera Mini did that, but it did strip a lot of JavaScript by default as a bandwidth as a saving measure.

I haven't really used it years.

I'm also not sure what happened with data that has been passed through.

But as a concept, things like you suggest have been done at least partially.

@mattewanlaws

To a degree that was/is Opera Mini.

But it was designed for bandwith saving its not amazing as a browser.

But in later versions it could block ads, not sure about other requests.

Maybe Mighty browser can be configured to do something along those lines.

Would you pay $30 a month for a faster web browser that eats less battery?

A startup called Mighty has a $30-a-month web browser that lives in the cloud, to keep your laptop from spinning up, bogging down and draining battery.

Waiting for Decentralized Network 3 to add support for Decentralized Network 1 so Decentralized Network 1 can immediately block it at an infrastructure level, the future of social networking is here.

@benhaube They seek government sanctioned racket.

Trying to bank on poor public perception of Mata and Google and saying that they provide vital information for existence of those platforms so they deserve a cut.
