@miki @marco @doubletap How good are the Linux screen readers in terminal? I've been wanting to try Linux on the desktop for a long time now but there were VMWare audio issues the last time I tried. I assume that the Mac has accessible virtualization that I can run Linux with
@marco @matt @doubletap thanks, that sounds good enough to what I was hoping for.
@fireborn @marco @doubletap I'm in Singapore and though there is a Apple refurbished store here as well, the price difference is small enough that I'll just get a new M5 instead. US$750 for an M4 sounds like a great deal though.
@marco @matt @doubletap I had the chance to use an Air for a few minutes earlier today and tried quick navigation for web browsing. Is there a version of this mode that allows it to work more like NVDA? I.e, no having to constantly interact? I obviously don't have experience but think that interaction is going to be a large efficiency tax compared to how NVDA or Jaws implements browse mode.
@fireborn Thanks, that sounds annoying and more tolerable than dealing with Windows, which seems to be doing its best to push people away. I'm planning on using Eloquence, so I hope that works well.
@fireborn How often does the Voiceover responsiveness issue happen for you? I've been thinking about getting an M5 Air with 24GB of memory for iOS development and virtualization. I've heard some reports of some users not having this issue, so I'm wondering what I would be in for if it happens to me. E.g, how long it hangs for and how to recover, does it happen every hour or every few days etc?
@marco @matt @doubletap Meanwhile on Windows land, 16GB feels like the absolute minimum just to get a good baseline experience because of how inefficient the base OS is.
@marco @doubletap The Neo is very tempting though, it is so much cheaper. I'll sleep on it for a few days more. If I only intend this to be a build machine / XCode then that'll do. But if I'm serious about being productive with it and trying to see if it can become my daily driver, I'll probably run into the 8GB memory limitations quickly.
