After a long week of cleaning up old hard drives, I am pleased to announce:

The archives for Netlabel Day 2017-2025 are now all on the server.

Over the next couple weeks I will begin replacing all the links in the Netlabel Day Archive so that they link not to the original pages (many of which have link-rotted) but to our own archive.

As a bonus, I will be adding links on every single archive page to the Netlabels and artists themselves, insofar as they remain active. That way people can explore the labels and the artists, too, and not just download cool music.

I can understand taking down your Creative Commons releases from Internet Archive.

I can understand taking down your CC releases on Bandcamp.

But -- taking down your CC releases on Bandcamp and replacing them with a holder to go listen to the same music on Spotify?

Get the fuck off the planet, dude.

Mike Duncan talks a lot about "Entropy of Victory" and of course one must define victory but I do wonder if that is the scurge that afflicts the #ccmusic and #netlabel community.

But like many of the revolutionaries that Mike discusses in his podcasts, I want more.

Again, like so many in his podcasts, I am calling for an Assembly....and again like so many, not for the first time.

May 9 will be the first of two. This one for netlabels and musicians on netlabels before @netlabelday in July

Never really used this account much but going to start today with a weekly #netlabel release.

This project will not be a bot in order to make sure the releases are #ccmusic and will also limit itself specifically to netlabel releases.

On #netlabelday we will just let the @netlabelday releases be the releases of the week, essentially treating #NLD as a pop-up label for the week.

As always, plz boost!

A Change of Agenda

Alien Nesby aka A23P aka Al talks about dealing with changing circumstances as “riding the waves.” I don’t know if he came up with it originally. If you have ever been surfing, yo…

'preciate y'all. Help me complete the Netlabel Day Archives!

Once I have all of the Netlabel Day releases on the server -- the archive server -- I also plan on making a VISUAL catalog for browsing. Not nearly as cool as digging through crates of old vinyl and random cassettes, but close enough.

I'll try to organize this like an actual library. You can sort music alphabetically but why would you do that to yourself? I'd like this to be searchable by artist name, sure, but more importantly by genre and such.

There are a couple structural things like this to fix so that everyone can build on it. Then, PIp, what larks we shall have!

Currently uploading the "complete" Netlabel Day releases to the shiny new Netlabel Day cloud server. 2025 is available already, but working now on 2015-2021.

Again, I am gonna need help completing a couple of the years -- 2016 & 2017 especially. I will be begging soon.

I have fixed the Netlabel Day Archive page. You may now find the archive in the footer of the home page, or at https://netlabelday.org/archive

There is a catch.

Archives after 2022 are linked to Netlabel Day's own storage server and contain everything available.

Archives 2015-2021 contain the ORIGINAL links as the pages were. You will find, to your annoyance and mine, that some of these links are broken, and some of this music has utterly disappeared.

I aim to fix this before the end of the year, but I will need your help. Meanwhile...enjoy as you may!

Netlabel Day

Just fixed my server and rebooted Netlabel Day Radio online, but I lost all the playlists.

SOOO....

While I get everything back in order, you get to hear selections from my 12,000 hours or so of ALL TEN YEARS of Netlabel Day PLUS ALL the Creative Commons music in my personal collection. Lots of genres, lots of sounds, lots to consider...

Enjoy!

Netlabel Day Radio

This is the shiny new official Netlabel Day account.

For those unfamiliar, Netlabel Day is a longstanding international music event dedicated to free-to-use, free-to-share, free-to-enjoy music from artists all around the world.

Officially Netlabel Day occurs annually every July 14. There is a 51-hour Netlabel Day Radio broadcast beginning at UTC -14 (Kiribati Time) and ending -12 UTC (the aptly named Anywhere On Earth time zone).

However, Netlabel Day Radio broadcasts 365 1/4 days a year, featuring a heavy rotation of EVERY Netlabel Day release from the preceding year, and a light rotation of every Netlabel Day release ever made since our debut in 2015.

Netlabel Day Radio is here: https://www.internet-radio.com/station/netlabelday/

Our homepage contains links to all the releases from the previous year. I'm working on an archive of every single track ever released for Netlabel Day, but for now this will do.

Netlabel Day's homepage is here: https://netlabelday.org/

There's much, much more to say and still more to come. Meanwhile, go listen to some music.
