Few years ago I found little starting project of implementing UNIX on PIC32, made by Serge Vakulenko - http://retrobsd.org/ I'm not that much into UNIX stuff, but I got caught up and tested new revisions of RetroBSD on my protoboarded hardware. This worked, but I wanted something better, so I designed my own board, with PIC32MX795F512H. SD card, SDRAM, RTC and stuff. Then, I built tiny serial VT-100 compatible display with 16-bit PIC and 240x128LCD plus serial keyboard. Notice the keys - actually taken from old 8-bit Czechoslovak 80's computer PMD-85 (no worries, it was completely FUBAR, but it served as organ donor for another PMD-85). With these components I built complete UNIX computer, powered by single Li-Ion cell, drawing approx. 150mA of current. Now I'm going to make "something-like-laptop" from those components. Stay tuned for updates.
