Wanderer ...

So, I just watched the Greek government digital platform get hit by a DDoS in real time.

Greece announced a fuel subsidary program that went live for applications - let me my check my watch - 15 mnutes ago. It was first reporting Unknown Error, but its gone full Gateway Failure, and TaxisNet (the Greek identity and tax database) has joined it in the grave.

What this means is the hospital in town probably just lost full EMR and appointment keeping abilities. I know this because a few weeks ago, I had a doctors appointment at a time gov.gr lost its mind and they couldn't process anything, and ultimately had to come back another day

The gov.gr wallet, and like six other things are no doubt also down right now

I'll let someone more qualified than me postulate on the security implications of this incident ...

@0xabad1dea @vickyjo

That is an astoundingly brilliant idea, and I am going to copy that.

Apparently, I am going to have to fave today on four hours of sleep.

The day will be long ...

@MoepMan https://www.wimo.com/en/f817-batt - WiMo still has them for sale for 100 euro which is where I bought mine, I got my brand wrong; it was WindCamp.

But the solar does make good sense. But I do like throwing the 817 as a complete module in my laptop case, and then my whip. I had a great time in Crete with the 817 doing /P ops.

Battery for Yaesu FT-817/818

12V 3000mAh Battery for FT-817, FT-818

@MoepMan I'm not actually sure if you can/should trickle charge like that, but I rather have my 817 being used when I don't do portable ops than just gathering dust on my shelf.

@MoepMan I want to put the original back in so I can charge the NIMH with the wall wart while I'm using as a base; I only have one bench supply which is on my 857, but if I put the original battery back int, it can trickle on the wallwart.

As for the built in lithium battery; τhe WINDMARK battery I bought was about 100 USD, and it gives excellent performance - I can usually run on 5W for 3-4 hours running FT-8 constantly without issue and it charges well.

I need to switch out the WINDMARK battery for the origina NiMH battery so I can trickle charge it. That's a tomorrow job though ...
Back home; I didn't end up working portable radio ops, but I just realized that now that I have analogue<->DV bridge setup, I can easily tune into the East Coast Reflector or the like; a good way to break up the silence at times ...
Wandering through the abandoned meter gauge railway in Kalamata, Greece
Well, I got the little radio charged up and packed up, so I can do portable ops. Still need to break down the whip and pack it, but otherwise good to go. Also, I have my license on me, so I think we're in business ..
