Prototype for new Kbin app: Interstellar

I've been working for the past week on a new kbin app. At the moment, it's just a prototype and only the "Feed" view has content (you can't sign into an account or post anything yet); you can see threads, thread images, thread comments, thread links, and thread votes/boosts. I love the inclusion of the Rwandan proverb translated into Gallifreyan. It's a really cool way to portray homage to the Doctor's character while also including non-Western influences.

As to the design of the screwdriver itself, I quite miss the old cylindrical design. I'm sure it'll be fine in action though.

Just finished the Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. As a fan of the original trilogy, I really enjoyed all the worldbuilding and learning more about Panem.

To find the previous businesses at that address, contact the City and ask for business license history at that address. Most cities require a business license for every business that wants to operate in a city.

To find the previous construction activity at that location, contact the City (or County if it's unincorporated) and ask for Planning and Building permits at that location. Some sort of permit is always needed when something is being built, so there should be records on it.

Typically, City/County websites have a permit record database online under their Building/Planning/Community Development department. You can usually use those to search up permits for an address. To see actual plans, you would need to contact the City.

For business licenses, that information isn't normally available online but should be public record and can be accessed by contacting the City.

kbin.social update

The instance has been updated to the latest version of the code. For the next few hours, there might be issues with communication in the fediverse. We are working on it, and everything should return to normal shortly. I'll keep you updated. #kbinMeta

Here's what I could find from ernest's devlog and the codeberg commit history:

  • Duplicate articles are grouped
  • Users can apply to be mods
  • Abandoned magazines can be taken over
  • Global/instance moderators
  • Accounts can be temporarily suspended
  • Magazine deletion
  • Comment textbox is at the top by default and can be moved
  • Magazine CSS can be disabled
  • Edited posts and comments are marked like on Reddit
  • API
  • Blocked magazines are filtered out of the dropdown when creating a new thread
  • Microblog posts can be pinned
  • Maximum character limits are displayed
  • Show Password button
  • The 'boost' text is colored when active
  • Account deletion button is more clear and obvious
  • Federation page listing defederated instances
    • Seems to not be enabled on kbin.social yet though?
  • Removed the "how to use the editor" button as it wasn't doing anything
  • Users can request their account activation email be resent
  • Users can customize the site's CSS in their settings
  • New option to disable avatars in comments
  • Improved email styling
  • Robots.txt (policy for search engine crawlers and chatgpt)
  • Logged out users cannot initiate federation with new users and magazines anymore
  • 2FA
  • Clearer wording for the direct link copy options
  • edit: New "open original url" option to directly open the url in a new tab rather than just copying the link

/kbin RTR#8 The update of kbin.social and plans for the near future

Today, we managed to update the main instance. Everything should slowly return to normal. Now it's time for things that will be less visible but no less important. Currently, the priority will be interactions with other instances - limiting spam, improving communication in the fediverse (including moderation) in order not to add... #kbinDevlog
