Because there's no "discovery" algorithm per-se, it's very important that you boost things you want to share. Faving them moves them around local timelines and communicates to the author.

But boosting will push it out to your audience, an act that you consent to by pushing the button. Mastodon (usually, some instances go wild) won't do this without your say-so.
