[Soft] Sofie on the ferry - Lemmy.world

All right, boys and girls, if this is not erotic, I don’t know what is. Background information Lara Verheijden (1990) is a photographer and filmmaker who grew up in a small city in the Netherlands called Deventer. After highschool (Waldorf) she moved to Amsterdam to study Dutch literature and linguistics at the University of Amsterdam. After graduating she did one year of photography at the Royal Art Academy of the Hague (KABK). Starting out she focused mainly on fashion photography, however she mainly gained recognition within the art world because of her instagram page where she posted her autonomous work. In the summer of 2018 she got the idea of making the first Amsterdam Nude Calendar together with Mark Stadman. Through a casting call on instagram and sometimes via friends and acquaintances the models are found and portrayed all over the city in iconic places. In the Dutch tradition of Paul Verhoeven’s movie Turkish Delight Lara photographs her subjects in a calm and open manner. With a sense of humour and subtle feeling for sensuality she investigates the tension between nudity and the public domain. An excellent example of this, is the infamous portrait of Sofie, her muse, called: ‘Sofie on the ferry’. https://www.thenudecalendarproject.com/#biography [https://www.thenudecalendarproject.com/#biography]

Also, while TARDIS is an acronym for “Time And Relative Dimension In Space”, DARTIS stands for “Dimension And Relative Time In Space”, which obviously makes perfect sense.

If it wasn’t trademarked by the BBC I would definitely opt for TARDIS, the hybrid of time machine and spacecraft. I am no lawyer, so I cannot tell if this is a possibility after all.

However, it ticks so many boxes:

  • Reference to space → Fediverse
  • Reference to timeline(s) → Mastodont
  • Bigger on the inside → Lemmy
  • Tribute to a crazy fun SF series
  • Cool icon

I personally have a weakness for a reference to pop culture (e.g., like the programming language Python is a tribute to the British comedy group Monty Python).

To be safe, we might use an anagram instead: DARTIS or TRIADS or DISTAR. As a bonus we will have a nice story behind the name.

This would be an equivalent of mulireddits, and something to be solved on Lemmy level, instead of Memmy level, I think. Would be awesome, indeed! The idea is there, but not implemented (yet).

I disagree. I use it all the time, whenever I switch from text heavy to image heavy community, or vice versa.
Just tried it in my inbox with your comment, and the effect is exactly what I meant. I’m not so sure though if it is that easy to implement. Internally, I guess every post should have two flags: ‘hide’ and ‘read’. It should be possible to hide unread posts and at the same time show read posts (but also hide other read posts, if that’s what you want). This might mean an extra column in the internal database of the app, or however that works.
I agree with configurable swipe actions, but I think that’s already in the works, if I remember correctly. My suggestion here is to make ‘hide’ one of those actions (haven’t seen that mentioned before). And yes, ‘save’ would be very nice too.
