Karim Ouali, because of his delusions, killed an air traffic controller, managed to get away, and is now living a peaceful life thanks to diplomatic tensions between France and China.

Two Stories of a Teen Who Died in ICE Custody

There are two ways to tell the story of Royer Perez-Jimenez, and which one you read says more about the narrator than the facts themselves. The version reported by the BBC is almost disarmingly sim…

@Trench Thank you for treating this situation like the absurd and tragic mess it is. As a French person, it still baffles me that y'all can casually see and live through this type of events.

Between 1980 and 1996, a dozen children disappeared or fell victims to evil hands in the French department of Isère. Despite the sadness of their stories, it was a long fight to get the justice system to care about them.

The case I’m about to tell you about traumatized a community and went unsolved for 22 long years. Two families were betrayed and shattered in the worst possible way by a man who took perversion to a rarely seen level.

A dangerous home invader broke out of prison last Saturday, and a gang leader's escape plan was interrupted basically at the last minute. These two events are a symptom of big issue in France: criminals are evolving, and the system can't keep up.

The Redureau case is a masterclass on how not to treat a criminal case involving a minor offender, for the media as well as the justice system. From no juvenile court to using the victims' pictures to sell more newspaper copies, this tragedy is a reflection of its time.

Marcel Redureau, a ruthless massacre and a cruel system

The Redureau case is very violent, not only because of the crime itself but also because of the way it was handled. It is quite old but still resonates today in its own way.

Michel was dangerous from the time he could walk. But when he killed a s*x worker, he was freed after 5 years. When he killed his wife, he was freed after 17 years. When he killed a 7-year-old girl, it was time for a reckoning.

Murder, Wine & Cheese

Today's case seems easy to understand : a woman killed her ex-husband's wife, a tragic end to a family conflict involving child ab*se. But even after multiple trials and a judicial novelty at the time, the case still has its fair share of unanswered questions.
