Watching the final Mission Impossible… it’s clear that as far as Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie are concerned there’s no such thing as too on the nose, or too heavy handed.

This might get me canceled, but: I've always hated the bone-to-space station jump cut in 2001.

They don't match! The bone and the space station — they don't match! The station isn't in a position that the bone is moving toward!

I know it's heresy, but they could have thrown that bone a few more times to get a better match! They could have shot the space station so that it was in a better position! They could have waited to cut until the bone has left the frame!

I don't get it!

Can you reach amazon.com? I can not. I can't even load the AWS status page, and other sites I think are AWS-based.

I think it's DNS, since my partner in DE can open them.

It’s lighthearted and casual, and even though the stakes are typically ridiculous they’re believable and legitimately stressful.

Michelle Monaghan and Phillip Seymour Hoffman add incredible verisimilitude and gravitas, qualities that are missing from every single subsequent film.

The movie closes as if the series was expected to end, and it sort of did. All the subsequent films have a completely different veneer of seriousness and melodrama that this one manages to avoid.

Despite being 20 years old, the third Mission Impossible movie is the best.
That one super warm week threw everything off and the dandelions are not only already out, they're already puffy
hey, here's an idea: maybe at this point, after 30 years of the web, we can start trying convince people to stop saying "forward slash"
Um, Daring Fireball just showed up in my Apple News feed?
@jkottke just spotted this in a youtube video — this is Silkscreen, no?
I honestly can't tell you how happy I am (knowing nothing else about the guy) that the new Apple head is a hardware guy, and not a software or design guy.
