In Gathering Sounds Too, readers revisit the Rainbow gathering community through the audio archive project, Sounds from the Rainbow, created over a 23-year period. As part of this experience, readers are invited to wander through approximately 23 unique sound files or Sound-Trails, following a loose-knit dreamscape narrative, which utilizes a Rainbow Trail theme to imaginatively explore a tapestry of gathering songs, stories, snippets, and sounds.

I kindly present this ethnographic, folkloric, and illustrative listener guidebook - the culmination of 23 years field recording at Rainbow gatherings. This self-published labor of love features nine essay contributors and dozens of artists. It has been a memorable journey, from schlepping gear and washing dishes to recording songs or stories around the campfire, producing many beautiful and timeless aural treasures.

This book will be of interest to people - hobbyists and professionals alike - in various fields of study, such as folk music, ethnography, folklore, alternative communities, field recording, American studies, and travel.

*I'll be starting to work on the audiobook version soon, which, if all goes well, might be released later this year. Also, over 100 illustrations and photos are featured in the book, including the one accompanying this post.

ISO: My book about field recording at Rainbow gatherings will be released soon in hardcover, paperback, and ebook*. More on all that when it's time to launch. In the meantime, to help get the word out, I am looking for anyone with a podcast, radio show, newsletter, or publication interested in doing an interview. Please feel free to DM me if this is you or if you know someone I should talk to.
deep new #folk music scholarship by eric mchenry on the true identity/subject of "louis collins," the haunted #murderballad often attributed to #mississippijohnhurt, but probably not written by him, it now turns out. https://theamericanscholar.org/the-bully-in-the-ballad/ via @kramermj
The Bully in the Ballad - The American Scholar

Was Mississippi John Hurt really the first person to sing the tragic tale of Louis Collins?
