Unfortunately, they likely won’t have you. I’ve looked into it; their immigration policies are quite restrictive. :(

The pen seems to work fine so far.

Looks like the SP5 - 7 are the sweet spot however.
I put Mint on my Surface Pro 5, it works quite nicely so far. Granted I do “typical” stuff on it like web browsing, email, basic picture editing, and some chats, but for those things everything’s working fine.
The only different part of the install was installing the Surface kernel after the fact: github.com/linux-surface/linux-surface
Pidgin was good; it did what needed to be done and wasn’t that bad at it.
The last service I was using it for was a self-hosted XMPP server for a small group of friends that were all refugees of other defunct services. We ended up finally moving to Slack or Discord (the group bifurcated along game-playing lines).
Now I’ve got to find something new yet again!
We had looked into it several years ago; my friends had thought it would be nice to raise children there and were looking to “escape” the first Trump presidency.
If you plan to work there, you’ll need an in-country sponsor and a job lined up before you arrive. Typically you’ll need to be working in a super-educated niche position (holding a doctorate in some specialty). The immigration authorities will investigate and if they determine the position cannot possibly be filled by a Dutch candidate, they’ll issue a long-term visa. As long as you remain employed, they’ll renew the visa.
Alternatively, you can apply as an “investor.” If you have several million dollars to invest into a Dutch business venture, they will let you in. You will still need an in-country sponsor, and you have one year to make the business successful. If the business continues operating they will renew your visa.
You may also “buy in” if you don’t plan to work there: If you can prove a few million in liquid cash and that you have the means to sustain yourself for years to come, then they will grant a long-term visa. If the money runs out however then the visa will be revoked.
Finally you can marry in. If you marry a Dutch citizen then you will issues a provisional visa. Immigration authorities will investigate the marriage and if they are convinced it’s legitimate after a year, you’ll be issued a long-term visa.
One thing to note about all of these is that they result in a “long-term visa.” These can be revoked at any time if you run afoul of regulations or fall outside the criteria and conditions above.
So it’s not impossible to move there, but the bar is set pretty high.

The analogy I go to for this concept is “the thorny vine.” A single thorn is a minor inconvenience, but if one were to attempt to grab the vine and tear it down by force, then there’s a lot of pain.
I’m sure they did read the content in the links. The point they are making is exactly your final line. There’s this refrain of “Boomers are ruining everything!” but the reality is it’s a small number of people with a lot of money using that money to do what they please at everyone else’s expense.
When the last “boomer” dies, the problem will remain. If we collectively fail to address it, then it’s just going to change up to “Dang GenYs ruining everything!”
