OK, of course you know that I have a new #DoctorWho #BlackArchive available from @obversebooks on #StevenMoffat’s Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead. But what if you wanted to know why it was written, how it was pitched, and what changes the editors wanted me to make? Don’t worry #WritingCommunity - I have you covered. https://dalesmithonline.com/send-out-stories/black-archive-72-silence-library #Writing
The Black Archive #72: Silence in the Library

Just days after being announced as the next showrunner of Doctor Who, Steven Moffat’s final story of the first Russell T Davies era is broadcast. In a darkened empty library, the story introduces us to River Song, a mysterious adventurer who might just be telling us exactly what is going to happen to the Doctor over the next six series. But more than that, she might be telling us what Moffat himself thinks about men, women, writing, fear, and the nature of stories.

“What's that,” you increasingly frustrating fail to ask, “You have a new story in @obversebooks ‘ latest #IrisWildthyme #ShortStory collection Locked in Space? How did that come about?” Well, dear friend, please go to https://dalesmithonline.com/get-asked-write/locked-space and find out.

What's that you say? You really enjoyed my @IZDigital story “Joy” earlier in the year, but really wish there was some way you could find out what happened after that story ended? Well why didn’t you say so? Hot off the press from the lovely people at @InterzoneMag is my short story Arthur https://interzone.digital/arthur/ #writing #sf #shortstory RTs appreciated
ARTHUR // IZ Digital

‘The drone said nothing as the man shouted over to his colleague. He’d found a small package nestled deep in the rucksack, a bundle that revealed itself to be the remains of an ancient baby blanket. The man with the handgun paid it barely any attention, holding aloft instead the bottles of antibiotics that had been carefully wrapped inside; to Joy it was the blanket she couldn’t take her eyes off, the only thing she had that hadn’t been stolen from a drone delivery. She felt the air harden around her stare, heard nothing but blood in her ears.’ // ‘Arthur’, a story by Dale Smith with art by Martin Hanford
