We've upgraded to Mastodon 4.5, which includes some great new features 
Some Mastodon clients already had built-in support for quote posting. Existing quote posts will remain unchanged, but Mastodon has added support for consent-respecting quote posts. You can disable quoting for all of your posts or individual posts in your account settings.

We are also excited for automatic reply fetching! Replies from other instances will be automatically fetched when you visit a new thread, and continue to be updated every 15 minutes. This will help fill in all of those missing posts from other instances.
We're also updating our default landing page to be the local feed so new visitors to SFBA will get to see all of your wonderful public posts!

To protect our community from a recent wave of scam accounts, we've made some temporary changes:
🔒 New signups are now restricted. We’re manually reviewing each signup request to ensure new accounts are legitimate. This has already helped block scammers before they can reach our community. However, we cannot block accounts from other instances, always consider where the account is hosted!
📅 This restriction is temporary. We’ll lift the checks once the wave of scam accounts subsides.
Help us out and protect your account:
- 📝 If you get a suspicious message, report it immediately
- 🔐 Set up 2FA by visiting Settings > Account > Two-factor Auth

There’s been a recent surge in scam accounts impersonating official Mastodon administrators. These accounts often send direct messages asking you to provide personal information or verify your account. These are fake, and do not require action on your part!

- The SFBA admin team will never ask for your personal or account information.
- Official messages will only come from @moderators or @announcements.
If you receive a suspicious message, please report it right away so we can take action before others are affected.

After careful consideration, we have decided to limit our federation with Threads.net. This means that, while existing connections to Threads accounts will remain in place, most Threads content will no longer appear on SFBA.social. We have more details on the information hub.
